Meadowlands Golf Club Plans Anniversary Celebration

Registration Open

Our sister course, Meadowlands Golf Club, marks its 20th anniversary this year.   They’re inviting golfers to celebrate with them on September 20 as they offer lunch and nine-hole rounds paired with hole-in-one prizes and much more. Entry is $50 per person with a portion of proceeds benefiting Canine Angels.

When it opened in 1997, Meadowlands was named to North Carolina Magazine’s list of Top Ten Best New Courses. Golf for Women Magazine named the course to its Top 100 Best Courses for Women list. Since that auspicious opening year, the course has been recognized several times by various golf publications.

In 2012, the original greens were replaced with TifEagle Bermuda and major modifications were made to holes 3 and 6 to improve their playability while keeping them challenging. That renovation was overseen by David Johnson who had worked with Byrd during the original design and construction. In a previously published article, the author described Hole #3 as the “course’s number 1 handicap hole ….revered as one of the toughest on the Strand.”

The September 20 event begins with a 9:00am nine-hole shotgun. Following a ribbon cutting and a few remarks, lunch will be catered by Middle-of-the Island (sponsored by Tribute Homes). Check-in begins at 8:00am.

Entry is $50 per person. Registration deadline is September 10. A portion of the proceeds goes to Canine Angels which rescues dogs from local kill-shelters and trains themas service companions for military veterans. The dogs and their trainer, Rick Kaplan, are frequently seen in training at Meadowlands. A demonstration of their abilities will be part of the day’s program.

In each contest, golfers have the chance to win $10,000 with a hole-in-one on either hole 8 or 15. (sponsored by Towne Insurance) and a custom golf cart on holes 5 and 11 (sponsored by E-Z-GO).

Additional sponsors include iNet Golf and CCNB.

Registration forms are available by calling the Meadowlands pro shop, 910-287-7529 and on the website www.meadowlandsgolf.com.  Forms are also available at the Farmstead pro shop (but must be dropped off at Meadowlands).
